What passes for thought around here…

I confess I don’t really know Elvis’ music. Although, I *have* read Odd Thomas…but at this point I’m not sure what to expect. One sure thing, though: Katharine will sing “I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You.” I’m also predicting “Jailhouse Rock” from Chris, and “Hound Dog” from Taylor.

Taylor – “Jailhouse Rock” – I liked it, but there wasn’t much Taylor Flavor to it. Of course, 82.5% of Taylor’s flavor is visual…

Chris – “Suspicious Minds” – Naturally, since it’s Chris, I can’t be completely kind….hehehe. There was one particularly hairy note in there, but overall, I dug it. Oh, the sunglasses were subpar as well. But, for the record, my sisters, I liked it.

Elliott – “If I Could Dream” – I wasn’t sold on the song for the first third or so, but he worked it out at the end. Originality was big on this one, for me. I didn’t get Elvis from that in any way, shape or form, in contradistinction to Taylor’s first performance.

Katharine – “Hound Dog” – She certainly sang well, but I can’t get past the fact that Kellie Pickler would have picked that song.

Taylor – “In the Ghetto” – I’m generally against straight-jacketing Taylor (read: not letting him dance), but I reeeeally dug this performance. His vocals were locked in and he really felt it.

Chris – “A Little Less Conversation” – I *love* this song, and I love that he spent most of the song in his lower range, then let his higher vocals POP at the end. That was awesome! I can see why Simon didn’t like it so much, because it was an atypical Chris performance (the low stuff). Maybe that’s what I’ve been looking for from him.

Elliott – “Trouble” – Originality again, infusing the bluesy song with some soul…loved it!! Man, this is a hot night!

Katharine – “I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You” – I thought she would do well with this, but it was way overdone. I liked that they went for an updated rendition, but it just seemed to get away from her.

Rankings:

Song One:

1. Elliott

1. Chris

3. Taylor

4. Katharine

Song Two:

1. Elliott

1. Chris

1. Taylor

4. Katharine

Combined/Average:

1.0 Elliott

1.0 Chris

2.0 Taylor

4.0 Katharine

More importantly, I guessed three songs correctly, even though only one of them was sung by the correct person.

It was *really* hard to rank the boys. Not so tough with Katharine. Poorly. There’s no way to predict who will be going home, but I have to vote for Katharine leaving us. But I think Elliott will probably join her in the bottom two. By my rankings, it’d be Taylor joining her. And by doing the math…

I begin to sense a slight favoritism toward Elliott in my review/recap/rankings. I’ve tried to be fair and balanced, just like the nightly news. And by that measure, I think I’ve succeeded.

I just hope we have an all male Final 3. It’d be the strongest Three since Season 2 (Ruben, Clay, K-Lo), and probably stronger.

We’ll see what happens…

What was up with the sound guy this week? He clearly didn’t have the stage monitors up high enough, because *everybody* had pitch problems. For the Katharines of the world, who are used to being right on the note, it had to be disturbing. Not being able to hear oneself can really hamper ye olde confidence.

Anyhow…
